Linlithgow Palace is a pretty palace situated in a lovely setting. It is the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. A short drive from Edinburgh, and well worth the drive to check out for yourself.Full review by ExpoNationals

Generally, it is quite safe for most places to buy tickets at the door unless an insistence to buy online is stated. There is no discount by buying online for the Linlithgow palace. The greatest risk you run, however, is that if you go on a day that is very popular, door sales will not be available. Even when they are available on popular days, queues can become quite lengthy.
I'm on a road trip, and unfortunately will get to the palace only after closing time. Is it worth a stop just to take some pictures from the outside after it's closed?
