Defunct robotaxi company Cruise has begun to lay off employees today, sources tell The Verge. The layoffs come two months after General Motors said it would no longer fund Cruise, and would instead shift its spending toward advanced driver assist and personally owned autonomous vehicles.

General Motors' Cruise robotaxi unit laid off approximately half its workforce Tuesday, as the automaker completed a previously announced plan to buy out remaining investors and refocus on self-driving cars for individual owners.

GM is closing its subsidiary Cruise, which has been developing self-driving cars. GM is only taking on around half of the employees.
