WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump's pick to lead the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, faced questions on Capitol Hill Wednesday over her loyalty to the Republican president-elect, who has vowed to use the agency to pursue revenge on his perceived political enemies.

Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and corporate lobbyist, would be one of the most closely scrutinized members of Trump’s Cabinet if she’s confirmed to lead the department that prosecuted the once and future president in two separate criminal cases that never went to trial.

Ms Bondi’s rise has brought her far from Temple Terrace, the city where she grew up on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Her father, a teacher, was the mayor. While an undergraduate at the University of Florida she considered becoming a paediatrician. But she went to law school, and an internship at the state prosecutor’s office in Tampa sealed the deal.
