Here's what to know about whether government offices will be open or closed on Martin Luther King Jr., Day this year.

Area residents wishing to honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his national holiday on Monday can take part in local MLK Day events. Utica City School Superintendent Christopher Spence will serve as keynote speaker for the 41 st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Luncheon of the Mohawk Valley Frontiers.

Here are a list of events that honor civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his legacy, in and around Baltimore.

The events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a wreath laying at MLK Park, located at the triangle of Broad Street and Campbell Street.

The Yakima City Council recently proclaimed Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a Day of Service during a study session on Jan. 14. In honor of the civil rights leader, a celebration march will take place Monday, beginning at noon at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North 5th Avenue.

On the third Monday of the month, federal, state and local governments, institutions and various industries recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

This year, the holiday falls on Monday, Jan. 20. It's a federal holiday, which means government agencies, banks and many corporate offices will closed for the day.

Monday is MLK Day, and many businesses and services are closed in observance of the federal holiday to honor the civil rights icon.
