Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country's national carrier, has apologised for a social media advertisement depicting a plane flying into the Eiffel Tower. The ad, posted on Jan. 10 to the airline's social media to commemorate the resumption of flights between Islamabad and Paris, was titled, "Paris, we're coming today".

A national airline has copped major backlash over an advert promoting the return of its flights to Paris. Pakistan International Airlines posted a photo of a plane flying at the Eiffel Tower on X as part of its campaign to mark the first flight from Islamabad to Paris after a safety ban was lifted.

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's embattled national airline apologised for an advert of a plane flying at the Eiffel Tower, published to mark the first flight to Paris after a safety ban was lifted.

PIA spokesman Abdullah Hafeez said Thursday that the ad, which hasn't been deleted and has more than 21.2 million views, was only ever meant to celebrate that the airline was resuming flights to Europe, and never intended to harm 9/11 survivors or victims' families.

The tower also has several amenities, including a gym, swimming pool, and cinema. Based on its sheer size alone, the tower even in its current state has become a city landmark.
