Zoe Saldana has won her first Golden Globe Award for her role in Emilia Perez, beating her co-star Selena Gomez and first-time nominee Ariana Grande to the gong. The US actress secured the best performance by a female actor in a supporting role in any motion picture for the Jacques Audiard-directed film about a Mexican drug lord who changes gender.

The Golden Globes has kicked off awards season, and several moments stood out from Zoe Saldaña’s emotional win to Karla Sofía Gascón’s message to transphobes.

Zoe Saldaña, Kieran Culkin, Jean Smart, Jeremy Allen White, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Demi Moore, Jodie Foster, Ali Wong, Jessica Gunnin, Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano are among the acting winners so far.
