Amazon is discontinuing a feature that lets you download your purchased eBooks to your computer and transfer them to your Kindle via a USB connection. Although few people take advantage of this, it still awful that we're losing one of the ways we can download our content.

Starting Feb. 26, 2025 (via ZDNet) you will no longer be able to download copies of your Kindle books and use those files as a backup. After that date, you will only be able to download books via Wi-Fi or through the Amazon platforms.

As reported by The Verge, the Download & Transfer via USB option is going away on February 26. That means you'll no longer be able to download ebooks purchased from Amazon, and then move them to your Kindle over a wired USB connection.
