After suffering an injury in the first quarter against Purdue on Friday, Michigan State tight end Jack Velling was taken to the hospital, a team spokesperson told MLive’s Matt Wenzel.

Edward Whiting, a four-star tight end from Sioux Falls, S.D., announced his commitment to the Spartans Saturday morning.

Velling followed Smith from Oregon State to Michigan State this past offseason. He has started every game for the Spartans, and has recorded 31 receptions for 334 yards this year.
