Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt announced he's launching his state's own Division of Government Efficiency, a reference to the Musk-backed Department of Government Efficiency that has stoked controversy in Washington as it has clashed with executive agencies.

Trump has long proposed raising tariffs—or taxes on imported goods that the businesses importing them pay the U.S. government—before the election, and said in November he’ll impose a 25% tariff rate on all imports from Mexico and Canada on the first day of his presidency and will impose an additional 10% tariff rate on all imports from China on top of other tariffs.

On Friday afternoon, around the same time a delegation of senior Canadian officials was preparing to meet with President Donald’s Trump’s border czar in a bid to stave off withering new tariffs, Trump himself essentially told them from afar: Don’t bother.
