Cutting down on kids' screen time is popular among many Long Island educators and parents. But some said the state should let school districts set their own policies.

The legislation Hochul is proposing is both direct and vague: It requires school districts to implement a school-wide, full-day ban on cell phones but gives them control over how to do it.

BALTIMORE -- A proposed bill aims to ban cell phone use in Maryland schools. House Bill 192 would prohibit students from using a cell phone during school hours except for specific circumstances.

The findings lend some credence to Gov. Kathy Hochul's call for a school cellphone ban in New York. CBS News New York's Carolyn Gusoff reports.
