The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may not be able to announce the provisional ODI squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tournament as they have reportedly requested an extension of the January 12 deadline from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

BCCI is now likely to request an extension. On the other hand, the T20 squad for the upcoming five-match series against England could be announced by January 12th.

The Champions Trophy will be hosted in a hybrid format with Pakistan as official hosts. The tournament will be played a three venues in Pakistan -- Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi- and in Dubai, where India will play all their matches, including the semifinal and final if they qualify, as an agreement between the ICC, PCB and the BCCI.

Although the ICC set January 12 as the deadline for teams participating in the Champions Trophy to announce their provisional squads, the BCCI is expected to make its announcement a week later.
