The coat of arms of the British Virgin Islands consists of a green escutcheon (shield) charged with a woman in a white dress and gold-coloured sandals, holding a lit golden oil lamp and surrounded by eleven other golden lamps.

The flag of the British Virgin Islands was adopted by Royal Warrant on 15 November 1960 after the islands were made into a separate British colony. Previously, the territory was administered as part of the British Leeward Islands.

The British Virgin Islands comprise around 60 tropical Caribbean islands, ranging in size from the largest, Tortola, being 20 km (12 mi) long and 5 km (3 mi) wide, to tiny uninhabited islets, altogether about 150 square kilometres (58 square miles) in extent.

The Government of the Virgin Islands has launched its official logo which will serve as its new brand and official identity. The logo, which includes the Vigilate, was revealed during Public Service Week 2016 at the launch of ‘One Government, One Identity, One Public Service’ held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Tuesday, June 21.

The arms, granted on 15 November 1960, appear in the center of the British blue ensign. The central figure is St. Ursula, the “wise virgin” and namesake of the islands. The eleven lamps represent the 11 virgins murdered with St. Ursula by the Huns.

He stated, “The unveiling of this logo, is reflected in the way we live, work and invest in the BVI – caring for our BVI because we love our BVI.” Premier Fahie further explained the significance of this iconic logo and congratulated the BVI Tourist Board for spearheading this campaign.
