Feb 16, 2009 · Fueled by my desire to modify everything for the sake of improvement, I have always had a fascination with putting Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) in my 64.5 Mustang coupe. I have known for some time that IRS options included Corvette, modern Mustang Cobra, modern T-bird/Mark series and at least half a dozen aftermarket units.

Jul 21, 2006 · Yes the bolt pattern can be converted. And the IRS is I believe about 75lbs. heavier than a live axle. But the rear of a Falcon is light so the extra weight would improve ride and handling. And thanks for the article it was excellent. I have read up on the Cobra IRS into a 66/67 Mustang. I fits with special frame brackets.

Dec 21, 2011 · The Miata rear suspension is considerably different from the Miata, adapting the Ford upright is going to be a fair bit of work. I know the upright pivots are somewhat different but don't know how close they are dimensionally. The 'Bird hub is 5x4.25 with a hub pilot a bit under 2.8in, it will not accept most common 5-bolt Ford wheels.

Believed to be out of a Lincoln Mark VII, which would make it a 1984-1992 (if the Mark VII origin is accurate...not positive on this). The tag reads: 430B 3 07 88 3C23 The unit accepts 28 spline axles.

Jan 30, 2012 · The rear suspension with the leaf spring used as the upper control arms looks like the 289 AC Cobra set up. I have worked on several of the early Cobras and the original AC leaf springs flex terribly and allow the alignment to change when hard cornering.
