In topic three, Strategies for Assessing Engagement, you will learn how to assess your direct reports' engagement.

This toolkit provides step-by-step guidance to easily assist work unit managers and supervisors in understanding OPM’s Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) results, prioritizing areas in need of improvement, and determining effective steps that will lead toward improved engagement among workforce members.

Every year, Federal agencies participate in the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) which is a tool that measures employees' perceptions of whether, and to what extent, conditions characterizing successful organizations are present in their agencies. This year’s survey polled more than 625,000 federal employees from more than 80 executive agencies, and finds “an increasingly resilient and engaged federal workforce,” according to an OPM statement highlighting the findings. Employee engagement scores, for example, reached a five-year high in 2023.
